Coach Vinny Careswell was named the head coach at Lee's Summit West High School in February of 2016. He will take over for Coach Royce Boehm who posted a record of 117-35 in 12 years as head coach at West. During that 12 year period, Coach Careswell served as defensive coordinator for Coach Boehm and helped West earn 3 state championships. Prior to Lee's Summit West, Coach Careswell was a teacher and assistant football coach at Excelsior Springs High School. Under the mentoring of Coach Sam Shouse, Careswell later became defensive coordinator posting a 14-6 record with the Tigers. Totals for his career as a defensive play caller total 157-49 including 3 State Championships, 6 State Semi-finals, 9 State Quarter-final appearances, and 8 Conference Titles.

Coach Careswell attended Missouri Western University and was a four year letterman as a tight end. He later became a student assistant coach responsible for Wide Receivers. Careswell appeared in 42 consecutive games during his 4 year career as a Griffon. Careswell has degrees in both History and Physical Education and later completed his Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Central Michigan University. After teaching 17 years of World History and Psychology he has now transitioned to teaching physical education and being a mentor in the Titan Success classroom. Coach Careswell will enter his 25th year of teaching for the 2019-2020 school year.

A three sport athlete at Ruskin High School, Coach Careswell promotes the multi-sport athlete and has many interventions in place to help his athletes academically.

Coach Careswell is married to Dr. Holli Careswell and has two boys, Camden (17) and Boston (14).

EDWARDS

Offensive Coordinator
Years Coaching at West: 5th

Coach Sterling Edwards has been on the Lee's Summit West staff since 2016. Prior to West, Coach Edwards served as the head football coach at Winneotonka High School (2010-2015). His first five seasons at Winnetonka saw the most wins in a five year span in the history of the school. The Griffins finished the 2014 seasons ranked 6th in the state in Class 5, their highest finish in school history. In the classroom, Coach Edwards is a member of the mathematics department and an AVID elective teacher. He also designed and maintains the www.lswfootball.com website.

Originally from Excelsior Springs, MO, Coach Edwards spent eight years teaching and as an assistant coach at Excelsior Springs High School (1997-2004). It was at Excelsior Springs where he first worked with current Titan Head Coach Vinny Carewswell. Coach Edwards also coached at Blue Springs High School (2005-2009).

Coach Edwards attended the University of Missouri and University of Central Missouri, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1997. In 2008 he received his master’s degree in Athletic Administration from William Woods University.

Coach Edwards would be nothing without his wife of twenty-three years, Mendy, who also teaches at West (PE and Health). The Edwards’ have a daughter, Landry (17) and a son, Dawson (12). Landry is a senior at West this year.

BARROWS

Co-Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line
Years Coaching at West: 16th

Chris Barrows is entering his 24th season of coaching football and his 16th season at Lee's Summit West. He coaches the offensive line and serves as the Run Game Coordinator for the Titans. Coach Barrows has spent his entire coaching career in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District and has coached at all three high schools. The Titans have garnered three state championships in football since he has been on staff. (2007, 2010, 2013) In addition to football he coaches Track & Field for LSW.

Coach Barrows grew up in Plano, Texas where he was a multi-sport athlete lettering in football, wrestling, and track. He was fortunate to extend his football playing career at the University of Missouri. He graduated from Mizzou in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Coach Barrows also holds a Master of Science in Secondary Administration from The University of Central Missouri.

When not coaching he enjoys spending time with the four most important people in his life; his three children Lanie, Avery and Brock and his wife Kayla. Coach Barrows feels extremely fortunate to have been a part of building the program for the last sixteen seasons and looks forward to the future of Titan Football!

OESTREICH

Defensive Co-Coordinator

Coach Brad Oestreich is entering his fifth season on the staff at Lee’s Summit West. Prior to West, Coach Oestreich has a broad spectrum of coaching experience spanning 30 years. Coach Oestreich began his coaching career as an assistant basketball coach at Cloud County Community College in 1988 and moved into the high school ranks in 1992. During that time he began not only coaching basketball but also football at Topeka High School, Washburn Rural High School, Austin Reagan High School (TX), Pflugerville Connally High School (TX) and Raytown South High School.

Coach Oestreich served as a head basketball coach for 20 of the 25 years in which he accomplished over 300 wins and a 68% winning percentage. He was named conference coach of the year 8 times and was selected to coach a USA Amateur Team in 2007. As a football coach, he has been coaching at the varsity level for 29 years taking on responsibilities primarily as a Defensive Backs coach but also having experience as a Quarterback and Offensive Line Coach. Coach Oestreich has coached in 2 Football State Championships in both Missouri and Texas. During his football career he was blessed to coach over 100 college scholarship football players and 3 NFL players.

Coach Oestreich received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Fort Hays State University, where he also was a member of the basketball team. He later received his Master’s Degree in Secondary Administration from Central Missouri University.

Coach Oestreich has been married to his wife Kelli for 29 years and has 3 children, Jamaar, Olivia and Hayden and a granddaughter Ashtyn. Although Coach has hung up his basketball whistle, he is extremely appreciative to still be a part of Friday Night Lights at Lee’s Summit West.

Co-Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line

Coach Parks is entering his 19tth year of coaching and 15th year at Lee's Summit West High School.Coach Parks coaches the Defensive Line, a position he coached for 12 years under former Head Coach Royce Boehm and helped the Titans earn 3 State Championships. Coach Parks has also Coached Inside Linebackers 3 years ago.

Coach Parks began his high school coaching career in 2001 at Raymore Peculiar High school as a defensive line coach helping Ray-Pec win the Class 5 State Championship in 2004. In 2005, he moved to the newly established Lee's Summit West High School as defensive line coach where the football program was in its infancy.

Limbo Parks graduated from Raytown South High School in 1983, where he was a two-year letterman in football, wrestling, and a member of the 1982 All-Metro Football Team. Parks was crowned the Missouri Class 4-A heavyweight 1983 State Wrestling Champion with a record of 33-0, 32 of those wins by pin. He went on to accept a football scholarship to Coffeyville Community College where the 1983 team went on to win a National Championship. During his time at Coffeyville, Parks was recognized as the Most Outstanding Offensive Linemen in the Jayhawk Conference by the coaches as well as being named second team All-American Offensive linemen. Additionally, he played in two Jayhawk Classic bowl games.

Coach Parks was a highly sought-after athlete coming out of junior college, Parks selected the University of Arkansas to continue his education and football career as a student-athlete. He rounded out his college playing days as a part of a highly-successful Razorbacks squad that enjoyed two Top 20 rankings and trips to the 1985 Holiday Bowl and 1987 Orange Bowl. Individually he was selected to the All Southwest Conference first team as an offensive lineman, UPI Southwest Conference 1st team and was selected to play in the Hula Bowl All-Star game in Hawaii in 1987. Parks moved on to the pro ranks, signing a free agent contract to play with the San Francisco 49ers where he played one year.

He is currently the In-School Suspension Coordinator at Lee's Summit West High School. Parks received a degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Central Missouri.

CRITTENDON

Assistant Freshmen Coach

Aaron Crittendon is entering his 3rd season of coaching football at Lee's Summit West where he coaches the Freshman offensive and defensive line.

Coach Crittendon grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri where he was a multi-sport athlete lettering in football, basketball and track and was recently inducted into the Central High School Hall of Fame. He was fortunate to extend his football playing career at the University of Missouri where he was a 3 year starter and played in two bowl games (Holiday Bowl 97' and Insight.com Bowl 98'). As a senior he earned 2nd Team All Big 12 honors and was voted as Offensive Lineman of the year. He graduated from Mizzou with a Bachelor of General Studies degree.

After his college career was over, he was able to move on to the pros as an undrafted free agent (2001-2002) with the Kansas City Chiefs. During that time with the Chiefs he was allocated to NFL Europe where he played a season with the Berlin Thunder.

When not coaching he enjoys spending time with his family especially his wife Jewel, daughter Alonah and son Aaron junior "AJ".

DRISKILL

Inside Linebackers
Years Coaching at West: 12th

Coach Jeff Driskill works with the inside linebackers. He has been a member of the LSW football staff since 2008. Originally, he worked with the freshmen offensive & defensive lines. Also, he was a voice of the Titans on the Friday night radio broadcast team since the first year they started broadcasting the games in 2005 until he joined the varsity coaching staff in 2017. He was involved with all three LSW state championship teams (2007 as a sideline reporter and coaching in 2010 and 2013).

This is Coach Driskill's 30th year coaching and he has coached all levels from semi-pro teams, college, high school and little league teams. As a player-coach at the semi-pro level, he was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the Midwest Metro Stars (1987), and won the "Super Bowl" Championship of the Minor League Football System as the captain and center for the St. Louis Gamblers (1988).

He helped start the football program at Lindenwood University as the offensive line, weight & strength coach and recruiting coordinator (1989), and took over as the head coach after the 1991 season. He was at Lindenwood through the 1994 season. Driskill and the 1989 team were inducted into the Lindenwood University Hall of Fame in 2016. They were the first football team in school history and they were undefeated that season.

Driskill moved to the business world and owns his own company, Driskill Business Development Group, Inc., but stayed involved in football. He was a football consultant for high schools in Missouri and Florida, and moved to Lee's Summit in 1998. He coached a Lee's Summit Pop Warner team in the Independence League and helped form the Lee's Summit Football Association that served to bring a competitive football league to Lee's Summit.

Coach Driskill earned his Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri. He played center and guard for the Tigers, and was on the Liberty Bowl (1980), Tangerine Bowl (1981) and Holiday Bowl (1983) teams. He earned his Masters of Business Administration with emphasis in Finance and Marketing from Lindenwood University.

Driskill is married to Linda, who is a 4th grade teacher at Cedar Creek Elementary School in Lee's Summit. They have two sons, Jeffrey (28) and Sean (25) who both graduated from LSW, and both boys have graduated college, also. Sean was an outside linebacker on the 2010 LSW State Championship team, and played college football at Baker University.

Strength and Conditioning Coordinator

Coach Reid graduated in 1987 from Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track. During his starting years in high school football, Coach Reid was selected as an All-Conference, All-Metro and Offensive Player of the Year performer at quarterback.

He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Missouri Western State University in 1992. Coach Reid participated in football on a full athletic scholarship. He was a four-year starter, four-year team captain and three-time All-MIAA Conference performer at quarterback. When his time ended as a Griffon, he was the all-time leader in school history in career passing yards, career total yards and career touchdown passes. In 2019, in celebration of 50 years of football Missouri Western State University honored Coach Reid by naming him to the 1980's All-Decade Team at quarterback.

In 1993, Coach Reid was hired as a police officer for the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. In the academy, Coach Reid was presented with the Director's Award, which is given to the top cadet for Leadership, Academics and Overall Performance. Coach Reid retired as a Detective in 2017 after 25 years of service. During those 25 years, Coach Reid earned over fifty Certificate and Letters of Commendation awards. During his tenure, he was involved with several specific units such as Rapid Response, Tactical Response (SWAT), Fugitive Apprehension, Property Crimes and the Asset and Forfeiture Section.

Coach Reid is a teacher in the Physical Education Department at Lee's Summit West. Also there, Coach Reid is an assistant varsity boys basketball and assistant boys track and field coach.

He is very grateful to coach with such a skilled staff and a high school with such a distinguished football tradition.

Most of all, he loves spending time with his family. He and his wife Kelly have been married for 27 years and have two children Carson and Raquel. Coach Reid is the father for Carson Reid, also on the Titan Football Staff.

STAPONSKI

Running Backs/Technology and Logistics

Coach Staponski (Coach Ski) is a 1987 graduate of Lee's Summit High School where he wrestled and played football. He earned his undergraduate degree from Rockhurst college in Physical Therapy. He practiced as a PT for 10 years. Along the way he also earned his Athletic Training certification. He put in many hours working with students and athletes at the high school and collegiate level at Lee's Summit High School and Southwest Baptist University. He enjoyed working with students and athletes so much that he obtained his teaching certificate and master's in education through Central Missouri State University.

Coach Ski began his teaching career at Fort Osage High School where he worked as an Athletic Trainer and varsity wrestling coach. He later started teaching at Pleasant Lea Middle School and coaching varsity wrestling at Lee's Summit North.

When Lee's Summit West opened, Coach Ski started coaching varsity football and wrestling at West. He has been a part of the varsity football staff from day one helping the Titans to 3 state titles. He has helped coach several special teams as well as the DL, OL, TE's, and now running backs and H-backs. Besides his coaching responsibilities, Coach Ski has been a part of the LSW football technology and logistics team since the school's opening as well. He handles the setup and teardown at every varsity football game including the coach's headsets, end zone and sideline cameras, SkyCoach sideline replay, and just about anything Hudl or technology related.

Coach Ski married his high school sweetheart, Cinnamon Ramey. He and his lovely bride have been married for 28 years. They have two beautiful daughters. Connor, who will begin her second year of teaching history and coaching varsity softball at Warrensburg High School. Carson, who will begin her freshman year at UCM where she plans to major in digital media and play softball. Coach Ski has also coached many softball teams throughout the years. The Staponski family has grown up with the Titan football family and the traditions of Titan football. During the off seasons the Staponski family loves spending time together playing sports, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, and relaxing at Pomme de Terre lake.

WOLVERTON

Quarterbacks/Soph Offensive Coordinator

Coach Rocky Wolverton is honored to be entering his 4th season on the coaching staff at Lee's Summit West. Prior to joining the Titans, Coach Wolverton spent his football coaching career at North Kansas City High School, Lee's Summit North High School and Campbell Middle School. In the classroom, Coach Wolverton is currently teaching 7th Grade Health at Summit Lakes Middle School.

Coach Wolverton attended the University of Missouri, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1995. In 2006, he received his master's degree from Webster University, and in 2013, he earned a Specialists' degree in Secondary Administration from William Woods University.

Coach Wolverton is super excited to be a part of the Titan family, and to share this experience with his amazing wife of 16 years, Julie, and their 3 current/future Titans, Drew (14), Connor (12) and Brooks (9).

After a 51 year coaching career, Coach Sam Shouse now serves as a defensive consultant for the Titan football program. During his career he has been a part of 4 state championships (as defensive coordinator at Excelsior Springs in 1994 and 1996 and as a part of the Titan staff in 2010 and 2013). He has served as a mentor to Titan Head Coach Vinny Careswell for more than 20 years.

Coach Shouse's coaching experience is extensive. He began in Seymour, IA (1965-1969). From there he returned to his home town, Excelsior Springs, where he would coach for the next 40 years (1970-2009). There he was a part of two state championships (1994 and 1996) and was able to coach for two Hall of Fame head coaches, Vic Bonuchi and Sam Brown (both had two coaching stints at Excelsior Springs and Coach Shouse was a part of both). He also worked along side New York Jets Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams when Williams was an assistant coach at Excelsior Springs before beginning his NFL coaching career.

It was from 1997 to 2004 where Shouse and Careswell were brought together as a part of Coach Jeff Rich's staff at Excelsior Springs. Rich is the third winnngest coach in Excelsior Springs history behind only Bonuchi and Norris Patterson.

After leaving Excelsior Springs, Coach Shouse joined the Lee's Summit West staff (2010-current). At West he has been a part of two more state championships and worked for Royce Boehm, who will soon become the third Hall of Fame Head Coach that Shouse has worked under.

Coach Shouse was the 2008 recipient of the Dave Bassore Missouri Assistant Coach of the Year Award. He is a member of the Excelsior Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He has coached in the Missouri East-West All-Star Game and the MO-KAN All-Star Game.

Coach Shouse graduated from Exclesior Springs High School in 1961. He graduated from University of Central Missouri in 1965 (BS Education). And in 1968 he completed his graduate work at Truman State University (MS Secondary School Administration).

Coach Shouse is married to his wife, Becky. The Shouse's have two daugters, Susan Hall and Samantha Poindexter, and four grand-children.

WEAVER*, DVM

Dr. Weaver is a native of Lee's Summit and graduated from LSHS in 1998. He was a multi-sport athlete at LSHS and went on to study at the University of Missouri. His undergraduate work was in Exercise Physiology and Human Nutrition, and then received his doctorate in veterinary medicine at MU. He worked on racehorses in Florida prior to returning back to Kansas City to join a multi-doctor veterinary hospital. Dr. Weaver has served as the official veterinarian for the American Royal, and now works for an animal health company, Boehringer Ingelheim.

Coach Weaver has assisted Titan Football with scouting and tendencies since 2010 on a volunteer basis. He is married to Lindsay Weaver, who teaches at Heart of America Dance Centre, and they have four children.

MORRIS

Head Freshmen Coach

Coach Morris is entering his 13th season with the Titans. This will be his second season as the Freshmen Head Coach. Coach Morris spent 3 years (2015-2017) coaching with the varsity squad and was the defensive coordinator for the sophomore team. Prior to coaching with the varsity, Coach Morris spent 8 seasons;s coaching the freshmen team. Originally from Lee's Summit, MO, Coach Morris spent nine years teaching and coaching in Oak Grove, MO. (1996-2005) before coming to teach at Summit Lakes Middle School where he currently teaches Engineering and Industrial Technology and is the Head Boy's Track Coach.

Coach Morris attended the University of Missouri where he received his bachelor's degree in 1995. Coach Morris also holds 2 master's degrees, one in Secondary School Administration from Central Missouri State, and one in Athletic Administration from William Woods University.

Coach Morris has been married for 14 years to his wife Stephanie and they have 2 kids, Kyleigh (13) and Cohen (10).

Assistant Freshmen Coach

LSW Class of 2015

Coach Bass is commencing his initial season of coaching students of Lee's Summit West High School in the football program. He will be coaching freshman running back and defensive back positions. Coach Bass attended Lee's Summit West High School 2011-2015. He was a multi-sport athlete who lettered in track and football. He was an integral member of the 2013 Missouri Class 5 football state championship team.

Following high school, he attended and graduated from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. He was a member of the football team his entire college career and was elected offensive scout player of the year in 2015. As his varsity squad play increased during his sophomore year, he was hospitalized and diagnosed with a rare cardiac arrhythmia known as AV-node tachycardia which ended his competitive playing career. He was offered a student coaching position his junior year as assistant to the defensive coordinator and senior year as assistant coach for linebackers. Coach Bass was hired as a strength and conditioning coach for the university's women's volleyball team during the spring semester of his senior year. He graduated May, 2019 with a degree in Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement with an emphasis in Coaching. As well he earned minors in Health and Psychology. He has a strong interest in strength and conditioning coaching in competitive athletes and evidence based theory in athletic performance. He will continue his education with pursuit of a masters degree in the near future.

RICHARDSON*

LSW Class of 2013

Coach Richardson is a Lee's Summit native who was enrolled at Lee's Summit West from 2009-2013. During that time he participated in football, wrestling and lacrosse. Playing defensive tackle under Coach Parks he achieved All-State and was fortunate enough to contribute to the 2010 State Championship.

Ryan continued his education at Missouri State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He has been a practicing Registered Nurse in Independence for 2 years. When not working or coaching he enjoys spending time with family, fishing, and traveling.

Ryan Richardson is starting his 1st year coaching football for the freshman team where he focuses on their defensive line. Ryan is excited to contribute to the Titan football family and strives to give back to the program.
